A HUGE shout out to the lululemon Chinook Mall location in Calgary where my friend and I went. Not only was it completely organized, the staff were so helpful - in particular KRISSY and AMY who were nothing short of AWESOME - and the touch of having my name on the white board on my dressing room - perfect! Yes I am kicking myself for forgetting my camera, but do not fear, Amy and Krissy have agreed to do a mock of the *first time* when I next visit. Oh please be soon..

the Bikini Shoppe

When we arrived at our first destination in Sacramento, California I discovered that I had left my swimsuit at home. (Referring to my *are you forgetful* post, makes me think there may be a trend). Seriously - how in the world does a person plan a holiday to California and forget the most important piece of clothing???

So when we arrived at our third destination, Mission Beach, Brent and I set out to find me a suitable swimsuit for the week. We found one at the first store we checked - the Bikini Shoppe - that we both liked and I felt great in (miracle) and that was not ridiculously expensive (also a miracle). But, not wanting to *put all of our eggs in one basket* we went for a stroll down Mission Boulevard and checked out all of the other swimwear stores...everything was at least twice the price and nothing caught my eye quite like this one. Not yet bikini ready (I'm working on it) I had to go for a tankini, which I must say was not the easiest thing to find in bikini-ville...so we headed back to the Bikini Shoppe and purchased the very first one we saw. And I LOVE it! I love it...the girls in the store were fantastic and really helpful...I'll definitely go back there when we visit next time - they had some great stuff! They also have a website that I imagine is intended to make it possible to purchase online, but nothing is set up further than the main page. I'll update you if anything changes in that regard. My whole swimsuit was $50 which I think is a seriously fantastic price for a nice quality swimsuit. And I feel great in it... (I was sure I had a photo of me in it from our holiday but I can't seem to find it, so this wacky angled photo will have to do.)

I may *forget* my swimsuit every time we holiday ;)

As we sat in the common area of Seaport Village, with the live music blaring, the kids playing and dancing, we noticed a man dancing along on his own. Initially we kind of chuckled along, making jokes about jumping in and dancing with him - it is kind of funny to see an adult just dancing away on their own. But as I got to thinking about it and watching him, I couldn't help but be inspired.

It occurred to me that when a child does the same the general response is filled with *oohs* and *aaahs* and sweet smiles and giggles. It's encouraged and really quite fun to see. But somehow there comes a point when it's seemingly socially unacceptable or discouraged. And I couldn't help but wonder not only why, but when. When do we stop encouraging *taking time to smell the flowers* or *taking time to just dance*.

Then I got to wondering about this man...his life...his experiences...and what he knows, has learned, and would say. What inspires him? And what about this day gave him the desire to dance? Maybe he's ill and wants to make every moment count, or maybe his wife recently passed away and music reminds him of her, or maybe it's nothing bad at all...perhaps he just appreciates life and realizes it's much too short to waste and can't help but dance. He was having a great time, dancing in the sun and enjoying his day.

It's true, I totally snuck this photo of him while I was taking some of the kids. I couldn't help it - I had to have one of him...In that moment I was inspired and was grateful to him for throwing away his inhibitions and doing what he wanted. I believe in that...I believe in being happy, in loving, laughing, and living. In dancing. I don't know who he is or where he's from. And I hope it's not offensive to him that I post this photo - if he happens upon this somehow and wants it removed, I will do so. But I had to post it and give a shout out to this man, a stranger to me, because I felt inspired. And of course, I wanted to give you all a friendly reminder to enjoy life to the fullest. No matter your story...

The long awaited, much anticipated, and seriously fantastic Scentsy giveaway is FINALLY here!!! I hope you are as excited as I am, because Scentsy is by far one of my favorite products. I just can't get enough. I recently had a party, which was a huge success (thanks to everyone who came and ordered!!) and now have a HUGE collection of scentsy bars, car candles (air fresheners), and travel tins. Plus a new warmer too! Trust me though, I use my warmers all.the.time. so I'm sure to need more in the fall/winter. Besides, some smells suit some seasons better than others.

My mother uses hers all the time and has found several smells that don't bother her at all. Every time my cousin, Radelle (of Eternal Reflections Photography) comes to visit I can't help but reminisce about fun memories growing up. We didn't live in the same city but that didn't stop our families from getting together, usually at their farm in Wetaskiwin. I loved it there and have some pretty fabulous memories - while I'm a city girl (or cityslickers as my cousins used to call my brother and I) there's something so homey to me about being out on a farm...I'm thrilled as I look back that I was raised with the experiences of both.

One memory that always has me laughing is when we were all heading out for a day in Drumheller. We were so excited and running around outside just playing it up while my aunt and uncle got everything ready. When the vehicle was packed we all zipped in the house for one last bathroom break, jumped in the van, and off we went. Everything was going great and we were having a blast on the drive until I looked down at my feet...no, not my shoes, my feet. Me...the city girl....forgot my shoes at the farm. seriously. We were already halfway to Drumheller, and no - we did not turn back....nor did we work out a way to stop somewhere to get me a cheap replacement pair. I just had to make do and climb the hoodoos barefoot. And climb them I did...I'm hardcore like that.

You may wonder why I was barefoot in the first place. Well as farm kids, my cousins were used to running around the yard without shoes on...it's just the way it was and when were were going out to play, they weren't waiting for me to get mine on. I had to keep up, and I did - though somehow I managed to be the ONLY one who didn't put shoes on for our trip.

*sigh*

Making the Cut

I've been working out with two friends since January. I enjoy working out with them and more recently have started genuinely LOVING working out...While I may not be able to do every exercise for the time allotted (sometimes I can't push through it and sometimes I don't) I really enjoy the classes we take. The 3 weeks prior to our family holiday I felt pretty motivated. I was getting up in the morning and doing an hour workout video (reviews on those to come) and then our hour class in the evening - 4 days a week. And you know, I noticed differences...I wish I had measured (I have since to track further progress), but even still...I noticed the way my shirts fit, even able to wear some shirts I hadn't been able to since I bought them. And I was able to wear shorts I haven't worn since I was pg with my son - 3 years ago. Well let me tell you how much better that made the trip. I had clothes to wear and felt like I looked good. Excellent...

Then we went on holidays. haha....Thankfully it didn't ruin me completely but I knew I had to get right back into it when we came home. Truth is - I missed it. So now I'm working on it all again and getting ready to commit myself even more. My friend and workout buddy, Laura recently bought this book by Jillian Michaels - Making the Cut. She was really happy with it, so I jumped on board and picked up my own copy a couple of days ago ($17 CAD at Wal-mart). I just finished reading it today and am motivated to try this out. I am taking the *Making the Cut Challenge* and I will be tracking my progress here. Scary hey? I have taken my measurements and will also do a before photo (that part REALLY scares me) and will be following the meal and workout plans laid out as best I can. I have no intention of cheating - it really is only 30 days and truth of it is, I want to see if it will work. It makes sense to me, feels like a good lifestyle and one I can keep up, and I won't know unless I give it my all. I was a huge fan of Biggest Loser this season (doesn't everyone look fantastic!!) and can't deny this *chick* gets results! Besides, it really is about LIFESTYLE changes, not dieting or quick fixes.

So, wish me luck...No I am not trying to look *like* Jillian....I don't think we have similar body types anyways....however I am interested in being toned like she is and having my body at it's best. Besides - having some new recipes to try is always exciting. I've already made out a list of snack options according to my body (she has it broken down into 3 categories and has meal plans for each) so I can put that on my fridge and make smart choices when I'm feeling snacky.

I'm committed...anyone want to join me??

Dear Burger King...

Thank you SOOOOO much for bringing back THIS:

I don't generally like really spicy things - I prefer to taste my food as opposed to just a burning sensation on my tongue. But this...I don't know - it is soooo good. I found out right before our holiday that they were back - so yes I went THAT night and got one for me and a friend for dinner (okay, it was like 9pm and right after my workout, but who's keeping track lol). It was her first time and she was super impressed. It tasted just as good as I had remembered, though I did take off some of my jalapenos as for some reason they were a bit too much for me that night. And I never get tomatoes because well, I don't like them. at all. The onion rings are TO DIE FOR on this burger...the jalapeno bacon and cheese....delish! I LOVE this burger....

But let's be real - the burger I got at the window doesn't look nearly as *well manicured* as the one pictured (from the BK website). Though I must admit it is not lacking in anything and I have never had an experience like the one in THIS post (seriously read it, it's pretty funny). To the BK this guy had the misfortune of eating from - seriously people....step up your game.

However...to the one I get to enjoy (rarely mind you.....what is the point of paying for a gym membership, working out, and then eating fast food like this??) I have been nothing but pleased.

So YAY to the return of the Angry Whopper. I wish you were healthy so I could eat you ALL.THE.TIME.

The wrong way to start a trip...

Just 4 days before we were supposed to leave, my 2 1/2 year old woke up sick :( Really not good timing but I had high hopes he would recover quickly or at the very least be manageable (at the risk of sharing too much info, let's just say he had to visit the potty often). Unfortunately his little body had different plans and around dinner time Wednesday night his stomach decided that nothing was worth keeping down. Aside from being lethargic he was also starting to look pretty yucky but nothing too worrisome. I headed out for my gym class, tanning, and then a tv show date with a friend of mine. Shortly after I returned home (11pm) he woke up crying having *lost his lunch* so to speak all over his bed. As I was rocking him, it happened again. We showered him and every time I looked at him I got scared. Something was seriously wrong....he didn't look like my little boy....he was pale, his face was thinner, and his eyes were sunken. We called a friend to come stay at the house while our daughter slept and we headed to the ER. It all happened so quickly but it was clear this poor little boy needed fluids so he got an iv (not a fun experience I tell you!) and we proceeded to spend two nights in the hospital. The pediatrician said his kidneys were ready to pack it in (scary!!). But my sweet little Jonah was such a trooper, despite all the poking and prodding and lack of sleep. And although he wasn't completely recovered the pediatrician discharged him at our discretion....and we being the great parents that we are, put him (and his sister) in a car for 22 hours to get to our holiday. (just pass the parents of the year award this way). He hardly slept at all but really showed few signs of being sick on the drive....we truly feel blessed and were able to have a fantastic holiday.

Here are some photos from the hospital - he was one sick little boy, but thankfully the nurses and dr's worked hard to help get him healthy for our trip. Within just a few days he was back to himself and driving us crazy :D

The next day....a whole lot better but still not enough to be discharged. Thank goodness for the DS

Scentsy - I'M HAVING A PARTY!!!

I first ordered my Scentsy items on a whim over 2 years ago. A friend of mine who was living in the States at the time, was having an online party and as a result of her personal enamour with the product I had to try it out. I have always loved candles and yummy smells, so I knew this was the product for me.

Initially inspired by an Oprah show on Millionaire Moms combined with her sister in law's story of her neighbour breaking candles and melting the pieces in an old potpourri warmer, Kara Egan experienced her *aha moment* (as Oprah would say). Joining forces with her sister in law (Colette Gunnell), they set out to perfect the idea of melting candle chunks in a safe and stylish warmer. And perfect they did - Since 2004 Scentsy has only gotten bigger...and bigger...okay and bigger :) If you don't have one or haven't seen one, you are in for a real treat. If you do have one, I'm sure you too can see why this business has taken off so well. I'm sure we all wish we would have thought of it too ;)

Completely safe (the wax doesn't even get hot!!), stylish, and the scents are absolutely delicious (something for everyone I assure you) - I am absolutely IN LOVE with this product. And now, even moreso since coming to Canada *YAY* They are perfect as gifts (think birthdays, mother's day, teachers, hostess, etc.) and their Multi-Packs make them affordable for pretty much everyone! (Although in truth they are reasonably priced to begin with, but doesn't everybody love a bit of savings!). Epicure - Review

I don't like tomatoes. at all. The strange thing about it is I like everything made from tomatoes, except fresh salsa...I don't know...too fresh? lol I remember working at a greenhouse years ago (oh my word I can actually say that and it's true...*eek*) and although my favorite to water was the herb and veggies *house* I absolutely detested the smell of the tomato plants. Even now, I can't spend a whole lot of time in that aisle of the produce section. In fact, while there today my daughter even noticed it saying, "ugh, what is that smell?" haha...I wish I liked tomatoes - they seem to finish off so many dishes nicely and really so many great dishes are made with tomatoes. They are healthy...I just don't like them. And yes, even if I don't know they are in something I will taste them. blech...

until I found this! Epicure Fruit Salsa - fresh tomatoes mixed with crushed pineapple and this fabulous seasoning mix...and voila! it's delish! I LOVE it...seriously love it. It's fresh and delicious and so good with tortilla chips - with or without cheese.

This weekend my sister in law had bruschetta at a family function. Naturally I don't like bruschetta, but boy did it smell good. And the yummy little garlic baquette slices. Oh how I wish I liked tomatoes. I had a bright idea today while grocery shopping and bought the tomatoes and the baguette and made this delicious fruit salsa on toasted garlic baguette slices for supper. I LOVED IT! I do think next time I'll add more of the bruschetta ingredients (green onion, peppers, etc.) but for now this was perfect. And it was enough to fill me up (I may or may not have had double what I planned to. lol) and get me through my step class and the rest of the night (no after workout munching for me).

So here's my shout out for Epicure Fruit Salsa! Try it....it's DELICIOUS!

Tell me people - don't these pumpkin Pie Caramels look DIVINE?! Also made in several awesome flavors such as Black Licorice, Pomegranate, Vanilla, and Chocolate just to name a few.

Well really, I just love this photo. And I want it in my house somewhere....once I get the kitchen redone and everything put together - I can't pinpoint one specific thing...I just love it all, everything about it....the colours, the oranges, the dish... And I can't lie - I also like that it's called *fancy oranges* - doesn't every girl want to be fancy?

Mellonmonkeys - Review

Every once in a while I take some time and go through my favorite stores on etsy. It's either a store I've purchased from or one I saw an item from that caught my eye. I've taken a few moments to do just that and am I ever glad. I'm excited about this shop all over again! Based out of Rexbourg, Idaho, these two stay at home moms have really come up with some adorable items.

This is the dress that first caught my eye. Seriously, this photo just makes me smile. I went for a little browse through the Mellonmonkeys shop and came across some other fabulous items and ideas. I've loved pillowcase dresses for a while but haven't gotten my act together to either buy or make one. I have a feeling this may change in the very near future. I love them - and how adorable is this one in the spring *jelly bean* fabric!

Don't worry though - it's not just for girls. Mellonmonkeys also offers items for boys - YAY!!!. When Jonah was little I had him in onesies with a tie applique on them. They were sooo cute, but now that's he's 2 1/2 (and has been out of onesies for a looooong time) I think a *real* tie is in order. Well imagine my excitement when I saw these awesome ties - and the options! I'm so excited! Oh wait, it gets even better! Not only do they do adorable ties BUT even more adorable tie and dress sets...perfect for my kids. How fun is this going to be to have coordinating outfits. I can't wait for family photos - I'm so going to order a set....but the question is, will I be able to stop at just one. LOL Am I the only one picturing family reunion photos?

One of the other things that I love is the affordable pricing AND shipping, even to Canada. I absolutely detest spending a fortune on shipping and Mellonmonkeys makes sure that doesn't happen.

While I love making things myself, I also know my *to do list* is long and at the risk of adding yet another project to it, I'm planning on simply ordering in the near future. CoverGirl Lash Blast Length - Review

I remember my cousin telling me about her new favorite mascara - CoverGirl Lash Blast - in the orange tube. Mascara has long been my favorite *essential* makeup products, and yes it's likely because I'm pretty vain about my eyelashes. I love them, what can I say. And I LOVED Lash Blast as soon as I tried it. It's pretty much been my exclusive mascara since then and it's nice having one that I love that doesn't break the bank. I generally just buy the on sale mascara (I know I know), but now I don't have to.

I've been wanting to try the new LashBlast Length since I saw the ad for it. I can't lie - their marketing decision to use bright yellow definitely helps. Nice choice I say - it's catchy, a little edgy, and screams fun. Yellow just makes me happy.

I finally made the purchase and couldn't wait to try it out. Immediately I loved the long skinny brush. Not that I've ever thought a mascara brush was heavy, but this one feels so light and easy to use. And I LOVE what it does to my lashes. I love how the mascara goes on - it's not too thick or clumpy, and I haven't had any problems with it smudging at all.

I don't know that I have a preference between the two, but you can be sure that my makeup bag will contain one or the other at any given time - for a very long time. Yes, I love it THAT much. Yay CoveGirl :D

Dress-A-Mee Dolls

I used to love paper dolls as a kid. I loved punching out all of the clothing options and would play for hours dressing and redressing them. Though I remember them fondly, I also remember being so frustrated at how easily they tore or got wrecked. They certainly weren't *built to last*, but they sure were fun. I'm pretty certain I have found the next best thing. When I saw that a friend of mine had joined this group on facebook - Dress-A-Mee Dolls - I had to check it out. I loved the idea immediately and was so excited at the prospect of providing my daughter (and son too, truth be told he loves barbies and such as much as she does.lol) with a little taste of my childhood.

I was so excited when Ginger agreed to send an item for review. In my opinion, she went above and beyond, sending me a fun little sampler package with 2 dolls and a bunch of clothing options. This is sooo handy so my kids don't fight over them. I love that they are heat seal-laminated and so durable, so they are free from risk of being ruined...and the items are so adorable, I can see the storylines now :) There is no shortage of options - halloween costumes, church clothes, pop star costumes, beach wear, pyjamas, etc. Each item attaches with masking tape (or any other kind of tape you prefer), though I'm personally inclined to add magnets to the back of all of our pieces. I think it will just make them that much easier.

I am really thrilled with these and think they are not only adorable, but well made. Sometimes I think we are so bombarded by all the *new things* that we forget all the fun and simple things we grew up with. It's nice to go back to the basics every once in a while...and these will help you do just that. Perfect for a car ride, at the doctor's office, church, a funeral, or wedding, etc. And so easy to tote around - I'm so used to having barbie legs sticking out of my purse, this will be a nice change. (ooo Ginger, can you make a mermaid costume?? like maybe a disney princess dress set?? my son would love you forever!!). I also love that these dolls are designed to look like *healthy* boys and girls - without being made out to look like mini models. Yes you read right - boys too....there are sets for both. Awesome!

Orglamix - Review

I find makeup shopping kind of overwhelming. There seems to be so much to choose from and though I do like trying new products, I don't like the idea of spending money on something that might not work the way I want it to. So I rarely add to my collection, though I often stand in the makeup aisle staring longingly - and a little confused. LOL I have wanted to try mineral makeup for a while, so when I was in need of replenishing some of my items, I decided to check it out.

I immediately went to the trusty Etsy site to see what was there. I had so much fun looking around. One of the first sellers I was impressed with was Orglamix. I loved the variety and the photos were perfect to give an idea of what you were really looking at. Okay I can't lie, I love a little bling too so the *sparkly* effect had me from the start.

I wasn't sure at first what to get so I was really happy when I noticed the Essential/Starter Kit section. I decided on the Hazel Collection, Grape Hyacinth and Chocolate Chip Cookie Eye Shadows, the Pink Pepper blush, and a makeup brush.

What can I say - I'm THRILLED. Seriously THRILLED. I love the way it looks and the way it shimmers. It just makes me smile :) It all goes on nicely and stays on - and of course is super easy to take off. In addition, all Orglamix products are formulated without:

My to do list..

I was curious about my own progress with the list I posed last week....I've crossed off the ones I've managed to accomplish or at least begin to tackle....it's kind of exciting to go back and see what I've gotten done.

1. Wake up early to exercise every morning, either at home or the gym (well I had good intentions)
2. ~~I have 2 review and giveaway posts to write, and a few other just review posts coming~~
3. ~~I have inventory to update on my website~~
4. ~~I need to update my journal (it's been a year....thank goodness I keep track of everything on the calendar so updating is really easy)~~
5. I need to update my personal blog documenting my journal since Brent and I were dating - oh I'm only 7 years behind *gah*. I'd really like to get this up to date this year - it's definitely not a this week thing. LOL
6. ~~Keep the kitchen and house clean of course~~ (I've done a decent job of this...most of the time)
7. Laundry (always)
8. ~~Finish organizing Craft room - it's almost there....and is looking so awesome!~~
9. I have gym classes pretty much every night to go to that I LOVE! (I've actually missed a few BUT have been doing my workout dvd's at home instead...yay!!)
10. ~~Outside play time with the kids because the weather has been great!~~
11. ~~Mail out a couple of orders as well as the package for Kayla~~
12. and many other little things I'm sure (I am waiting on a bunch of review/giveaway items to post about as well)

I did a pretty good job I'd say. I'm happy with it...The thing with lists is, you cross off one thing and put two more in its place. LOL So obviously it's never *done* but still seeing the progress is motivating :D

Naturally I was THRILLED when I was given the opportunity to review an item of my choice from their site. Because I am generally pretty indecisive and there are a few rooms in our home that still need to be redone, I was a little unsure of what to pick. I scoured the site...read the quotes (I love quotes), considered the designs and finally decided on THIS one for my daughter's room. Having recently redone it, I knew it was the best room to choose. The circles were perfect and just a fun element to have on the otherwise bare walls. Of course it didn't hurt that the sample photo used almost the exact colours of her room. I put in my request for the Circles in Apple Green and Bubblegum Pink and awaited their arrival.

I think the sample photo was a little deceiving, as I expected the exact pattern to arrive ready to put on the wall. Which would have been fine of course, but was I ever pleased to see there were two sheets, each filled with multiple circles in each of the colours. It really left the creativity to me which was a little daunting but loads of fun at the same time. There is truly no *wrong* way to do it. The more and more I see her room, the more I love it. (She has a framed magnetic board that needs to be hung over her dresser, so only parts of the *lone* circles will be visible.) And while I am anxious to get shelves up in her room as well, now I don't feel the need as badly. The walls are no longer bare! Putting them on was so easy, and because they are so removable, I was able to change my mind as I went. I love that! Now just to finish off the other rooms in our house so I can do some serious shopping :D

Don't forget to check out their Bargain Bin and Just Released sections as well. Looking through I came across THIS - I may have to redo my son's room. *grin* It's soooo cute!

What's on your list?

I've been taking more time in the last few months to sit down and relax a bit more...I've watched more movies, gotten more done around the house (with lots still left to do), played more games, tried to get to bed at a better time, and of course gotten more things organized work wise (www.cutelikeme.com) - which is sooo exciting). But I still have a long list of things to do....most of them I am going to tackle this week. It's time to really utilize my time the best I can. I'm pretty happy sleeping in every morning and luckily my kids are really accomodating to that, though my daughter rarely wakes up before me. LOL Today was though my last day for doing this. I lose about 2 1/2 hours every morning where I could be getting some other things done instead of *wasting away* with unnecessary sleep. Though I love it - it's not the habit I want to continue in our home....at least not EVERY day. Anyways, here's my list for the week:

It's going to be a busy week, BUT I love making lists and getting things accomplished...and I love having lots on the go.

What's on your list this week....I think lists are awesome and a great way to stay organized and prioritize! It can perhaps seem overwhelming to consider ALL that we want to accomplish, but there are some on the list that are always relatively *easy* to finish....so start with those so your time is more free to spend on the bigger items.

Gift Bags...

It always amazes me when I see the price of gift bags in stores...moreso when usually just a few blocks a way there's a dollar store where you could get 10+ for the same price. It blows me away....So naturally I was completely THRILLED when I happened upon this find at Zellers....13 - yes THIRTEEN gift bags for $2.84 or something like that. that's even better than the dollar store....and the bags - sooo cute!!! Definitely girlie, but definitely worth having a stock of. These are considered *medium* size - 8"x4.25"x10" - and are perfect for loads of things...

I am SO excited about them!!! I may have to go back and get more...I'll try and post a photo sometime tonight so you can see them!

Life Changes...

One year ago today...life changed....at this very moment exactly one year ago my husband and I were sitting with our kids, his sister and her then boyfriend (Chris) in his house completely unsure of what to do in our state of shock.

Earlier that evening at my parents house for Sunday Supper, in the middle of my mom and I's weekly Scrabble game we got a phone call. Expecting it was my sister in law letting us know their uncle had finally passed away (had not been doing well for a long time and had recently had a nasty fall)...I think Brent assumed the same thing when he heard his sister on the other end. But his reaction said it all....the repetitive *WHAT?* as though he hadn't heard correctly - when really it was plain and simply that he didn't want it to be what he had heard. Never did it cross my mind that something had happened to his dad.

Two days after officially retiring and beginning what was going to be an awesome and relaxing summer filled with family and friends and loads of memories....at our Condo in the states (first trip there since buying into it)....just the second day there...riding his bike down the hill to meet everyone at the pool. My sister in law and mother in law were driving to the pool and came upon the fire truck only letting one car through at a time. Not only did she have the thought to stop *in case dad had been hit by a car* but she actually stopped and they checked (inspired). Seeing his shoes first, then his bike...it was clearly him. Not hit by a car, thank goodness....but a heart attack. Just 60 years old. A complete shock...complete....

And my husband's uncle, though that was not his time, did pass away later on in the year. And so 2009 brought two sisters into their new lives as widows. Thank goodness they have each other. But there were too many memories still left to make...no, nothing was left unsaid or undone out of *putting off* but sometimes circumstances don't allow for things.....just 3 weeks before Brent was to graduate (this put a real kink in that and set him back a year), 6 weeks before my sister in law gave birth to her 3rd (and final) child, and a few months before my brother in law's wedding. Not to mention the countless other times since then that his presence has been sorely missed.

Life goes on. It has to. But we miss him...and often we see or do things...the kids say or do something...and we can' t help but wish he was right here seeing it too. Sometimes loved ones are really taken much too early...and while I've seen a lot of young people die in my life - for the first time I have begun to really and deeply understand the finality of no longer having their constant presence. And let's be honest. It sucks.

Life changes...we do what we can. We miss, we love...we cherish...and we give even more to those around us because we know. we understand....we've been rudely awakened (even if we didn't need to be) to the reality that we just never know. And we are better people because we had him in our lives. But wish we could have had him a little bit longer - no, A LOT.

As my cousin would say, le sigh. And we move forward...

I love shoes....though I haven't always been able to add to my collection like I want to. It's always fun to find something different, unique....something that not everybody else has. And really, shoes can be the best way to dress up an outfit - add some pizazz and personality. I seriously JUST happened upon this Etsy shop about 10 minutes ago and had to come right on here and blog about it. I had to smile when I saw their initial statement in the description of the Obsession Shoes:

I blogged about this company on my Cute Like Me Blog after my contribution had been you tube'd by a customer! How exciting is that - she loved the hair clip so much she video'd her daughter wearing it. Turns out, this particular clip happens to be the exact colours of her school uniform - excellent!

A perfect individually sized bag of Choco Caramel Coconut popcorn awaited our tastebuds. I'm not generally a fan of chocolate so I passed the bag to a friend and my husband to try. HEAVEN...though my friend nearly polished off the whole bag herself, she did insist that I have one taste. I was also really excited to find a small bath bomb/fizzer from Bathgasm as my kids and a friend used up NINE large bath bombs about a month ago in ONE bath....oh yes they did (they really did smell pretty amazing after though lol). So one Sunday after church I immediately locked myself in the bathroom for a delicious bath sans kids. And it was perfect! I loved the sample size of the bath fizz - I usually take a hammer to the large ones and just a piece for each bath. And the smell was soooo nice. When the time comes that I take the plunge and buy more bath fizzes not only will I be hiding them better, but Bathgasm is certainly a store I'll be checking out.

I also tried the Spicy Taco Seasoning from Lip Smackin' Creations and both my friend and I were THRILLED. It was really delicious - it's always kind of fun to have a specialty product to use. Sometimes they have that extra little kick that makes everything taste just that much better. Check out her etsy store for everything from spices to pancake mix to dessert. If her taco seasoning is any indication, you are certain to be THRILLED!

I definitely have more to test out and will be writing reviews along the way - hopefully some will also include giveaways. Some may be filled with a few similar items (bath products for example) but I actually love that...I can try products from a few companies and compare. In addition, I think this is a great purchase if you want to have some fun little gifts on hand. And how adorable is the packaging - I'm not sure why exactly but I LOVE these boxes.....

This is a story that you have heard before…but is always fun to read about. Two moms, two friends, two people that love to be creative and want to go a little beyond the kids craft time with their creativity…and help with the family income if possible! Z. Daisy was created in hopes of making life a little easier for moms and dads out there. Their best selling Binkie Bungee was created because they could not find a cute pacifier clip on the market that was soft and had a secure clip. Wanting to help keep those pacifiers and blankies off the dirty floor, "bungees" were born. As their children grow they expand their line for fun things that they love...hence the girl's accessories.I'm pretty sure your little girls will love them too! I know I fell in love the first time I browsed their site.

Having been in business since 2006 (and I tend to think even earlier than that), they were certainly among the first to offer such products. Perhaps no longer unique in terms of function they are certainly unique when it comes to design, style, and quality. I LOVE the fabrics they use and the overall look of each of their products. On first glance/browse online I knew this was a company I wanted to promote. Everything looks well made and is so adorable, I was certain my daughter would LOVE it. I was also really happy to see their section of *eco friendly* products. Going Green is something that is getting more and more press lately and there are more and more people trying to make even those little changes to help make a difference. I was really impressed to see them making the effort to accomodate that, without having to compromise on style and function. We really can have it all!

When Brooke offered me an item of my choice for review I had NO idea what to choose. Truly I wanted one of everything but also wanted to choose something my daughter could use now (instead of having to wait until we have another child at some point in the future). This left me at either a belt (ADORABLE), headband (aren't they great!) or a kerchief (SOOO CUTE) - I couldn't choose, so I left it to Brooke to decide. I know, how nice of me!

In the mail arrived the softest, most adorable (and kiddie chic) Monica Pink Kerchief - my daughter loves getting things in the mail (just like her mama) and was so happy with this. she loves rubbing it on her cheek - it's soooo soft! And, if I do say so myself, she looks adorable in it. Brooke - I want one for me too!! :D It fits nicely, it stays well...and it's completely washable! I LOVE that!

Purple Pig Shirts - Review

Being back at the gym recently I've really started getting more interested in having *nice* workout clothes...you know, ones I feel good in. It may sound silly, but it really does make a difference. My friend recently pointed out that one of my pairs of yoga pants make my legs look really skinny - you can bet I'll be wearing those EVERY time we go. LOL

The thing is, it's not really the pants/capris I have an issue with...it's finding a nice top that is comfortable and breathable. I immediately fell in love with the clothing from Purple Pig and was so excited when they offered me a shirt of my choice to review. I chose the Peace, Love, Clarity shirt - though the decision was not easy. I love how soft it is - it's that perfect *thickness* for a workout tee - I know I won't be overheating during cardio and it's super cute that I can feel great in it at the gym. In addition - and thankfully - it's also clear that it's great quality and isn't going to fall apart at the first sign of sweat (okay that doesn't really happen anyways, but you get the point).

Their yoga shirts are created based on their desire to share their commitment to health and wellness in a fun way. These shirts are not only for practicing Yoga, Pilates and Meditation but any wellness activity. Be Sensitive

I was at the post office late this afternoon mailing some orders off when something caught my attention. Yes I admit it - I was eavesdropping (oh don't act like I'm the only one. lol). A guy about my age (pick a number, any number) was asking about renewing an address forward that had expired. The mail was being forwarded from his father's place to his...the problem being that his father passed away in October, so he was not able to sign the documents. I can't always explain it, but that feeling hits me every once in a while where I'm immediately taken into the moment, humbled, and extremely sad. My heart ached for this complete stranger....having just lost my father in law (coming up a year next month) I was devastated for him that he experienced the very same tragedy I watched my husband and his family experience. I couldn't stop thinking about it the entire time I finished up with the clerk. All I could do was quietly say to him, *Not to eavesdrop, but I'm sorry about your dad.* He thanked me and I was on my way.

I held it in (the time isn't always right to let it out), but I could have cried - no sobbed - the whole way home. My heart hurt for him. And all over again for my husband and his family (truly that hurt is constant).

Often when I'm driving and someone is zooming past or cutting off, etc...I try to make a special effort to be understanding, sympathetic...even sensitive to the circumstances that MAY be impacting their actions (ie. racing to the hospital for a wife or friend in labour, dying friend or family member, etc.) Does it make it right...not really...do I get frustrated...sometimes....is it always an accurate assumption - no, perhaps even rarely...but sometimes I think we can and should be a little more forgiving. Is that person in line at the store or even perhaps the clerk stressed out about something in their life and unsure or unable to properly direct that stress? Again, it doesn't make it okay....but sometimes shouldn't we just extend ourselves and show a little *understanding*?

Well, I think so. People are hurting everywhere...Not only do I think we ought to go out of our way to find more ways to help, but also to be more sensitive. We all have times in our life when we need a little ourselves.

In case you were wondering - the guy at the post office was more than polite. Despite being a sensitive subject I'm sure, he was composed and kind....though I would hope that those helping him would have shown him a little forgiveness and sensitivity should things not have worked out (they did).

So as you go through your week, just take a minute to consider the realities of all of those you come in contact with. Take an extra minute or two - show a little more patience, forgiveness, kindness....and of course,

be sensitive

KID BASIX - Review

My kitchen cupboard is filled with sippy cups - all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colours....trying to find *the perfect* one. Some leak too easily, others are too difficult to drink from - and of course when our kids chew the spout to smithereens (don't you just hate that!), there's no hope of getting any liquid out *sigh*. It's quite a process actually, to find one that really does the trick.

Cards for Kayla....the shorter, and just as sweet version

Just in case you don't have or want to make the time to read the long version of this post HERE (below), I'll just post the main point so we can get as many cards to Kayla as possible!

In doing some blog hopping yesterday I made a stop at My Organized Chaos and came upon THIS post. And once again I have been touched.Tammi writes about a blog she came across a couple of years ago where a woman named Sandra wrote about her husband, Jimmy being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. And if that wasn't enough, just 2 days later and 4 days before Christmas 2008, her daughter, Kayla was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I know - are there any words?

So here's the scoop. Kayla is not doing well these days - she is neutropenic {no immune system}and has bacteria in her blood - and Jimmy has a tumor the size of a soft ball inside his chest. Yep, that's right....

So Tammi along with some other bloggers got together and decided to do something. I have invited myself along for the ride :) While not having experienced this with a child of my own, this cause is very real to me. It's at my core....I feel it....it's a part of me - and however small, I want to do something. anything. So I (along with these other bloggers) am asking for YOUR help.

STRAIGHT UP - No money is being asked of you. In fact all that's being requested is that a card be sent to Kayla to help brighten her days. Pieces of Me...Cards for Kayla

End of the day announcements caught my attention one Friday on my way out of school in grade 12. I didn't ever really pay that much attention to them but I immediately stopped and listened for EVERY detail. **Volunteers are needed in the summer for the Kids Cancer Camp** - I was hooked....I tend to be a procrastinator, but I was on top of this one. I didn't want to miss this opportunity. I knew immediately it was where I wanted to be, something I wanted to do, and in so many ways something I NEEDED. I couldn't have been more right. I sent in my application, was approved and set out for the best week of my life. It was phenomenal - These kids - some with cancer, some survivors, and some siblings of both survivors and victims - laughing and smiling and being able to forget for even just a moment what their reality was. The week was packed full of fun - arts and crafts, games outside, and even a teepee sleepover on the last night. This night has a very special place in my heart and in fact, just thinking of it now I'm getting emotional.

While I LOVED all of the kids I met there, there were two sweet girls in particular who I felt a special bond with. Best friends as a result of their lives with Cancer (one with Neuroblastoma and the other Wilm's Tumour) - Shelby, barely 5 at the time and Nicole, 7 - much too young to experience all that they had, yet their zest for life was infectious. I landed the best spot in the teepee - right between the two of them :D I even got to be Shelby's *pretend mommy* as she was missing her own so much. Talk about a Proud moment!

We had a fun picnic lunch with everyone after the campout and said our goodbyes. Knowing this was something I planned to do every summer, I couldn't shake the feeling that some of these kids likely wouldn't be around the following year. Devastating and Motivating - I got talking with Shelby's mom (Maria) and Nicole's mom (Donna) and found out both girls would be in the Cancer Clinic that week for treatment. So I arranged to come and visit.

Again, no way was I letting this opportunity pass me by. These children touched my heart, my soul...and they are forever etched within my being. Many memories were made in the clinic of the (old) Alberta Children's hospital and many more friends were met. It's an incredible network there, one I felt honoured to be welcomed into. As a result of these visits and my indecisiveness with my future (thank goodness for that) and Maria's desire and need for someone to watch Shelby while she got some things done, I became Shelby's nanny. Seriously - how lucky am I! I can't tell you the amount of times I've seen the Spice Girls Movie, or how many times we had *meat, cheese, and crackers* for lunch (her favorite), or how many *chocolate milky bubbas* I made her - but even as I sit here I can't help but think, *if I could just do it one more time*. No matter how much time we're given it never seems like enough. Though Shelby's Cancer (wilm's tumour) holds a 95% cure rate, and despite her incredible determination (giving a fight like no other), she earned her angel wings that October (1998). No matter how inevitable, you never really believe that day will ever come.As a result of my hospital visits with Shelby and Nicole, I became extremely close friends with a guy named, Josh. He had just had a unique surgery in which his leg was amputated (thigh) and then his calf (and foot) were reattached backwards to allow his heel to act as a knee in his prosthetic. He thought it looked wierd, and it did....but I was PROUD to be his friend.

The year after Shelby passed, and on what would have been her 6th birthday, I was able to shave my head and donate the proceeds to the Kids Cancer Care of Alberta. Josh had just had surgery and was unable to leave the hospital, so we arranged to have it done there! Some other kids I had met through the camp and seen while at the hospital also came to show their support. As did my best friend, Jenny and her now husband, Luke (it was the first time I met him. lol). It was incredible and a day I'll never forget. Shelby's brother and sister helped Nicole and Jenny cut off my pony tails and shave my head. And if you're wondering, I LOVED being bald.

Later that year, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime when Josh's parents offered me to live with them for what would be the last few months of his life. I can never thank them enough, though you'd never know by my horrendous *keeping in touch* skills, despite living just 10 minutes away *shame*.But that time together - the amazing opportunity to share those sacred moment with a dear friend and be included on the *inside* - it has forever changed me.

We shared some pretty special times - opening night at the Pokemon movie (oh yes we did), making dinner for the family (I really can make a mean spaghetti - though the trick is to actually cook the spaghetti long enough lol), driving the train across the lethbridge bridge on his birthday, just to name a few - all of which I think of daily. My dear sweet Nicole - Shelby's best friend - whom I ADORED and took pride in knowing (they used to fight over my lap at the hospital...lol) also earned her angel wings, years later shortly before my wedding (2002). I do not choose to live with regret, however hers is a story I wish I had more of. I missed a lot - and not because I didn't have the time, or because I was so involved in other things (although i was busy)....and certainly not because she didn't matter (oh did she matter)....but for whatever reason, I didn't MAKE the time. And perhaps that is what hurts me most of all. Because she did matter...and I missed out.

These three were not the only ones - there were many children whose lives touched mine in ways I can never explain. I've seen these faces....the smiles, the tears, the triumphs, and even what feels like failures. I know the laughs, the seemingly insignificant details that become milestones, the rides down the hall on iv poles (which initially had me freaked out - man I was so uptight. lol). I felt the sorrow, the anger, the loss....and I know what it's like to look into a mother's eyes as she watches her child fight for their life. And the stories....One little girl, Morgan told her mother one day that she *LOVED her feeding tube...* - *Because then she could eat AND play at the SAME time!*...now THAT's positive thinking!

So what brought this on today? It doesn't mark an anniversary or a *would be* birthday - I know, I have them marked on my calender. EVERY.YEAR. And while I think of each of these experiences numerous times each day - what brings this on today? Well I'm glad you asked (let's just say you did), because I'm going to tell you anyways!

Do you make new year's resolutions? I've always liked the idea and remember when I was younger, making them always made me feel grown up somehow. It kind of makes me laugh now. When Brent and I were first married I suggested to him that we set some new year's resolutions. I was all excited and anticipated this would be a fun, kind of romantic, bonding experience for us....where we could make some resolutions and help each other stick with them. But, he burst my bubble and all but scoffed in my face announcing that *he does not make new year's resolutions*. HUH? I was totally shafted, though I know that wasn't his intent. And it isn't as bad as it sounds. If I had been even a bit hormonal I'm sure I would have burst into tears, but he quickly explained (and saved the day lol). See the thing is, he prefers the idea of consistently setting - and achieving - goals throughout the year...month, week, and even daily. Suddenly I liked the idea - and while I've always lived that way, had never thought it through like that. So, we didn't make resolutions. Interestingly, most times when we sit down and reconsider some things we should do better - the things we are hoping for happen.

I believe in setting goals. I believing in keeping track of our personal accomplishments and making a record of how our lives are changed as a result. And while some of these goals may coincidentally happen at the beginning of a new year, we don't really label them as *new year's resolutions*. Not that I really think it matters....though I think sometimes people make new year's resolutions and never think of them again.
One of the things I do like about the idea, however, is making the time to sit back and reflect on the past year...and look into the new year hopefully having learned something and *resolving* to do - or not do - certain things as this year unfolds. I constantly have ideas and goals running through my head - so last year I followed my cousin, Radelle's lead and categorized and listed them. I'm glad I happened upon it right now as I see it's high time to look through the list again and update it as needed.

This really has turned into a bit of a ramble....it may or may not all come together in the end. :)

I've seen in the past and recently people making the effort to focus on one thing for the year - usually a word. I've seen Charity for example....patience, forgiveness, etc. I love this idea. It wouldn' t necessarily have to be for the whole year - you could do a new one each month....or every few months, etc. And it doesn't have to begin at the start of the year... But what I like about this idea is it puts a name to the goal. You can put this word in several places where you will see it often during your day as a reminder..Helping to keep you on track. So I have decided to do the same. This is something I've actually been working on for the past 4 months I would say, but I resolve to make it even more of a priority in this new year. Each year paves the way for the next - and this is something I really want to master.

My word for this year is

SIMPLIFY

In every aspect. I want my goals to be clear, concise, and achievable. I want my home to reflect my simplified outlook...(which will help as renos get underway)...I want each room to be organized, simplistic, and inviting. I want to make the effort to simplify my days so I feel like I can spend more time WITH my kids. Just with them. I want to organize myself in such a way that I feel relaxed when I take time for ME. The past couple of weeks have been awesome for this....I've taken the time to sit down and watch Oprah if I wanted to, play a game with the kids when they ask, sit and drink a steamed milk (homemade) while I get some computer work done. And I've MADE the time to go to the gym. I'm a firm believer that we MAKE time for the things that matter. I'm not much of a believer in *I JUST DON'T HAVE THE TIME* and more or less think it's a copout. We choose to fit into our lives the things that matter. I want to make more time for those things.

The thing is, I have so many projects I want to get to and get finished. But I am also trying to SIMPLIFY so I am working on one at a time. More than that can get a little chaotic and overwhelming at times and it can start to feel like there are *so many things* I'm not accomplishing. A few of them will be ongoing (our family journal for example) but once I'm caught up it won't be so much of an issue.

I'm really excited about this year actually...though the reality of it being my last year in my 20's *SNIFF* at times is difficult to choke (thanks a lot, Twilight! - ever since reading the book I've wanted to become a vampire and live forever so I can really get it all done. lol). But I'm excited for the things in store...and I'm loving my life even more than I did before since I've been MAKING the time to SIMPLIFY.

WHAT YOU WISH FOR!

It's time to really put those BOOGIE WIPES to the test! My son decided it would be a good day to wake up with a runny nose *sigh* so, off we go on the BOOGIE WIPE train :)

In case anyone is wondering, his favorite scent is Grape - he spent about 5 minutes smelling each one. LOL It's my favorite too....then the fresh, and then the menthol. But that's my personal preference!

Anyways...I'll be more careful what I wish for here in *bloggerland* - actually while I'm here, I really would like to win the $1 million in the Legion Million Dollar Lottery 2010. And since I believe in dreaming big, winning one of the homes or other main prizes in the STARS Lottery would really just be the icing on the cake. I've always wanted a water bottle....a NICE one...a REAL one, you know? I'd see some at the stores and while a few caught my eye I never knew if they were really *great* quality. I'm not a runner and haven't had a gym membership in a while (which could explain a few things. lol) so I've just been filling it in the morning and drinking and refilling it throughout the day. Yes I could just use a glass from the cupboard, but it's not as pretty AND if I'm heading out somewhere I can just put the lid on and take it with me. Avatar - Review

It's a movie I've been told is a *must-see* and more specifically - an *in theater* must see. So when a friend invited Brent and I to join her and her husband Saturday afternoon I was in. We got ourselves a sitter and off we went.

My husband had heard that the storyline itself wasn't fabulous but that the animation and effects were really impressive. It's true - they are spectacular...and it may not have been this way for everyone, but this movie had me from the very beginning....and only sucked me in further as it went along. I absolutely loved the storyline - I loved the characters and their development and I loved how it all came together. I, of course, also loved how the ending was left with room for a sequel :)

While the storyline itself may not be unique, the way it's put together is truly beautiful. I was completely taken with the message and the feeling of it all. I loved the internal conflict of the characters and the determination of well, all of them. Some for good and some obviously not. I found myself completely taken with Jake Sully's (Sam Worthington) journey to become one of the Na'vi warriors, finding myself GRINNING at his triumphs and nearly holding my breath in anticipation as he faced each test. And although completely predictable, I found the love story between him and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) a perfect addition...it was sweet, though not without trials of its own. The action was intense and enjoyable - not because people and creatures were dying, but because I love a good action movie. This one did not disappoint, though there was definitely more to it than just action. The feeling - we knew these characters, loved them, believed in their reality, felt their sorrow. And let's talk about the tree....THE tree - it was as though time stood still for everyone - you could see it....and the tears were right there. The shock. In that moment (among others) we felt like an avatar - we understood their connection and the devastation. The tree falling meant something...I was so taken by the Na'vi community - I found myself almost wishing there was such a thing. Or maybe I just wish we all had the same connection to what we've been given - by God or whatever you choose to believe. That we truly appreciate and revere all that's here...that we could be connected in a way that truly made us better, more in tune...more humane in many ways. I love movies, but this one truly made its mark. In fact, my husband was also really impressed and is actually itching to go see it again before it's out of theaters. I think the more he considers it the more he realizes just how great it is.

The animation - the creativity....each detail brilliantly planned and executed. I loved the creatures - despite being *scary* and certainly not something I would want to run into *eeks*...but they looked normal - they made sense in the Na'vi world. It all made sense.

My only critique - seriously the ONLY one, is the 3-D. I didn't feel like it was utilized as well as it could have been. Though the glasses are definitely better quality than the cardboard ones I remember as a kid, there weren't a lot of effects (in my opinion) that were really *3-D necessary*. That being said, it was still a fun bonus and certainly didn't have a negative impact on the experience.

In addition, though the movie was 3 hours long and I even had to break a personal rule and run out near the end (during a non-action scene of course) and use the *ladies chambers* - the movie could not have been any shorter. Everything was necessary....and for me, did not seem too long at all, though I don't recommend drinking much during the first half....there are few opportunities for such a break.

All in all, for me, this is a BEAUTIFUL movie.Definitely one to see - IN THE THEATER - and one we'll be buying for our collection without a doubt.

Thank you to everyone who sent warm wishes to our friend waiting to hear of her loved ones. I received a message from her yesterday telling me that HER MOM IS OKAY!!! And I'm pretty sure a good portion of her family is as well, though there are still 3 cousins unaccounted for.

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for your thoughts and prayers at this time. The devastation is overwhelming - I can't imagine watching it wondering about a personal relation and waiting to hear of their safety. A huge weight has been lifted off my friend and she is now able to not only eat and sleep, but plan ahead for the arrival of her third baby in a couple of weeks....and is looking so forward to seeing her mom shortly after.

I AM SO RELIEVED!!! And so GRATEFUL that she has been blessed in this way.

In reading Tenille's post at Feisty, Frugal, and Fabulous I have learned about a well known blogger's recent passing. I cannot claim to have known Karissa (of Prissy Green), and if I'm being honest I didn't even know of her blog (a fact I am kind of embarrassed to admit), but it would appear she was a light in the blogging world. Someone who was kind and generous, funny and friendly - and who absolutely LOVED her job and the blogging world. It's times like this where I sit back and think *I missed knowing a great one* and resolve to do more....meet more people...and give more. I am devastated for her family and friends and am sending my warmest thoughts and sympathies to them at this time. Whether you knew her for a day or a year - or many....it's clear this loss is felt. And I am so sorry that this experience has now become a part of your reality.

I'm also wanting to send some - okay LOADS - of prayers to Haiti. It blows me away to watch the news as the devastation is truly alarming. A good friend of ours is from Haiti and is anxiously, but not so patiently, waiting for news of her ENTIRE family's safety (both parents and several siblings as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins). As of yet, she has heard nothing and as you can imagine, is finding this wait to be gruelling and almost unbearable. Not knowing, in this instance can be so much worse than knowing. She is due to have her third baby in two weeks time and was anxiously awaiting her mother's arrival to come and help out for the next 6 months. Having never been able to make the trip to see her other two granddaughters, this trip was to be special for many reasons (she was supposed to fly out this morning to the US, and coming here a few weeks after). So please if you wouldn't mind, take a moment or two to send some warm thoughts that her family is okay. And of course that she hears soon - I can't even imagine. I believe in miracles....I really do....and while the devastation is intense and unbelievable, I still believe in HOPE.

Tie Buddies - With Giveaway

I don't remember learning to tie my shoes. Rest assured, I do in fact know how to (though now that I think about it, I don't have many lace up shoes. lol) but it's not something I remember learning. My daughter is the same and has always been. So I've been a little curious to know how experiences such as learning to tie her shoes, would go. The BlackBerry Diaries - With Giveaway

There are few things I enjoy as much as curling up on the couch with a great book, being able to just fall into a storyline and lose myself for a period of time - it's true, I've been known to be *mia* for hours on end - I have the messy house to prove it! Some books take me right in and others are just fun and easygoing reads that are plain and simply enjoyable. Where I can't put it down because I am just having fun reading it. The BlackBerry Diaries: Adventures in Modern Motherhood is just that kind of a book for me. Written blog style, the BlackBerry Diaries is like the *journal* of Kathy Bucksworth, on her life after her beloved BlackBerry (*Seamus*) joined her family. Yes, similar to a child being born, Kathy goes through all the same *issues* a new mother would - particularly a first timer.

(from the back of her book) The relationship between a BlackBerry and its owner is not unlike that of a mother and her newborn baby, says Kathy in her book. Ever since her husband could not put down his own BlackBerry, Buckworth decided to see what all the fuss was about. So she bought a shiny black one -- to match her shoes -- and named it Seamus. "No one can truly explain what it's like to have a real, live baby in your house, and no one could really describe the transformative moment when I held that adorable little thing in my arms (okay, fingers) for the first time," Buckworth writes. Her book is about the joys and drawbacks of owning a smart-phone, mixed with musings about parenthood. Buckworth explains phantom vibrations (dubbed "BraxBerry Hicks"), which any true "BlackBerrian" recognizes as the moment when you've think you've received an email and then, if in front of people, you have to read a blank screen to save face.

I found myself nodding and chuckling to myself many times throughout this book, but not because I've been there....you see, I read this book on the other side of the fence so to speak. I am not a BlackBerry owner, in fact - not just that, but I don't even have a cell phone *gasp* and my texting skills are nothing short of horrendous. But I know (and perhaps this is why I'll avoid getting a blackberry - though I secretly really want a pink one and can't say I won't succumb to the temptation) that there is a high possibility that this would be me as a result of getting one. The computer already demands so much of my time (self inflicted mainly), I can only imagine if I had access to it ALL.THE.TIME. In fact, our laptop kind of went on the fritz about a month before Christmas, and although I miss it, it's been a blessing in disguise (I now have to trudge ALL the way downstairs to the desktop *sigh*).

That being said - there are soooo many benefits to having this kind of access. It's really a balance...one not easily found. Written with humour, wit, and a bold and unapologetic honesty, Kathy's comparison between adding a new child and getting a BlackBerry Smart Phone (BBSP) definitely had my attention. Her writing style (real, fresh, and oh so funny) offers a great escape from those often mundane days - you'll be passing this book along to friends and family to share in a great laugh...Really, an enjoyable read. I'll be keeping this one on my bookshelf for sure and am definitely going to check out her other books!

Soap Nuts - with Giveaway

It seems more and more *green* products are being marketed - body products, clothing, and cleaners to name a few. I'm always looking for new *better for the environment* products - they also tend to be *better for us* too which is an added bonus. I don't know if it means I've been living under some sort of rock, but I had never even heard of Soap Nuts before the opportunity to review them from this company came up. Not only am I up for anything, but particularly when it comes to trying out a new *natural* product - I was totally game.

Soap nuts are small berry like fruits that grow in warm, tropical and sultry climates. They are native to India, Nepal and some other South Asian countries and consist of a small yellowish Brown fruit covered by a hard outer covering. It is the former that is mostly used in the various products that are now available in the market. The main ingredient in soap nuts is saponins which make them an excellent cleaning utility that can be used to clean almost everything ranging from clothes to dishes and regular household cleaning.

Erin, from Buy Soap Nuts was generous enough to offer a 500g bag of Soap Nuts and a Coconut Coir Fiber Scrub Pad. I can't lie - at first glance they look at little *odd* and my first *sniff* didn't really encourage the need to use them. Okay it wasn't that bad, it was similar in my opinion to vinegar - which we all know is a great product to use in cleaning. I read the back to find out how to use these and discovered several uses for them. They aren't just for laundry (which was what I originally thought) but can also be *cooked* down into a cleaning liquid. I wanted to try that - and am happy to report there was no vineger smell (though I expected there to be). In fact, It doesn't really even have a smell - which lets you know it's also going to be safe and gentle on your skin. No rubber gloves here (though if I got a cute pink pair, I just might wear them anyways.). In fact - the list of uses for Soap Nuts is baffling to me and so unbelievably great. Not only can you use it for laundry and as a cleaner (windows, mirrors, counters, etc), but you can also make your own toothpaste as well as using it for handsoap. For those with allergies or perfume sensitivities, this product is perfect. The Soap is also famous as a medicinal ingredient. In fact, soap nuts have had a long and successful track record for treating several skin conditions effectively. Totally natural and gentle, these soap nuts are wonderful for the skin and don't cause any side effects when used to treat skin ailments - they work wonders to relieve problems such as eczema and psoriasis.

I wasn't trying this product so much to see if it was *better* than my regular chemically overloaded cleaners...but rather, to see if it was *just as good*. If I'm going to make a switch to something natural I want to make sure it's, at the very least, an adequate replacement. In all honesty - based on the simple fact that Soap Nuts has such a long list of uses, I say it's better hands down. And yes of course - it does just as good of a job as the *chemically overloaded* products (I'd venture to say even a better job). And there's something to be said about the peace of mind in knowing you haven't just wiped down your child's table, or toys, or the kitchen counter with a bunch of chemicals. Soap Nuts are 100% natural and 100% safe. And many have commented on the quality of these Soap Nuts in comparison with other suppliers.

I am really excited to test these for all their uses. Next up - I'm going to take the laundry challenge. I will of course report back on that and the other uses I test out over the Christmas holidays. The great thing about this bag - 500g - is that for only $22, it's going to last a while. To make the liquid I used I think 10 Soap Nuts and you can't even tell I've taken any out. * I hate vacuuming - and rarely do it (and am so grateful for a husband who does it!!!)

And yes, I do consider myself lucky. LOL

I have Ralph Lauren's Blue perfume, and The Body Shop's Coconut Milk Body Lotion (this one is fabulous!!!)...I always loved The body Shop's Mango perfume, but sadly they don't make it anymore :( I like some of the body sprays and lotions from Victoria's Secret as well as Bath and Body Works (oh yeah I have the Pumpkin Pie Paradise Lotion - amazing!!! - but it doesn't look like it's on their site. boo) . Oh and I LOVED the Bath & Body works Le couvent Lemon Verbena Body Splash but it was also discontinued :(

3. How many speeding tickets have you gotten in your life?

um...no comment....okay seriously a few....(so glad this didn't ask how many accidents. haha) - but I think I've only had 1 in the past 7 years until last month when I got TWO within two weeks...*urg*

4. Do you go fishing? Do you like to fish?

I don't go fishing although I did with my grandparents as a kid. I'm more of the *suntan on the boat while everyone else catches the fish* kinda girl....my husband and cousin's husband caught some rainbow trout a few summers ago and we cooked it up (we were camping) in garlic butter and it was AMAZING, which tells yo usomething because I don't like fish.

5. What reality tv shows do you watch?

I really like the Amazing Race...and that's about it. I've watched a few seasons of Survivor. Oh and I can't forget - I LOVE The Bachelor(ette) and America's Next Top Model. (Do American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance count??? If so, then those too lol)

The Me Quiz

Here I am on Sunday afternoon just relaxing with my family - Jonah is napping and Brooklyn is cuddling with her daddy (before they brave some playtime in the snow)...I thought it would be fun to play a little game - do a little quiz. We've all seen these on facebook and when my cousin recently did it, I knew I wanted to as well. So here it goes:

Ocean/Pools: I'm a pool girl, by the ocean. LOL I LOVE the ocean, but absolutely hate having sand stuck to me (unless we are actually building in the sand, then I can work through it). So I enjoy taking a dip in the pool and returning to the lounge chair at the side to resume my tanning, reading, etc.

Cats/Dogs: Tough one actually...we have a cat (*Her* name was Bella Aprillia until we discovered that *she* had...well boy parts *ahem* so now *He* is Mr. Bella Aprillia.) and I love having a cat (though this one has come close to meeting his maker a few times) as they are really independent. You can go away for a few days and leave out water and food and a clean litter box and not worry. Dogs need more....however, I'd really love a dog one day (not now) - my dream dog, a Great Dane. Okay I actually want two - a Great Dane and a Yorkie...how cute would that be. So I guess I don't really have a preference on this one...
Summer/Winter: Summer - though I associate winter with Christmas so I definitely get excited when the weather starts the change....never far from missing the summer heat mind you.
Sugar/Salt: salt - though I never salt my food....but I love salty food (chips mainly). Sweet stuff, not as much and I find it often hurts my teeth.....but I do have a bit of a *candy* sweet tooth - the dentist has made a fortune off me *sigh*
Pen/Pencil: pen - there's nothing quite like finding that perfect pen. Pencil for math, but pen for everything else.
Silver/Gold: Silver - but I am venturing a little bit into having a few more pieces of gold jewelry
Ketchup/Mustard: mustard - mmm mustard
Pants/Shorts: hmmmm...I have NO idea on this one. Depends on my mood I guess.
Math/Art: Both - I had an awesome math teacher in grade 10 who really helped me find my appreciation for math. As a result it became my favorite core subject (theater was my FAVE). But I also always enjoyed art
Sunrise/Sunset: sunset - I try not to be awake for the sunrise, though I'm sure it's really beautiful. LOL
Chocolate/Vanilla: definitely vanilla
Big Mac/Whopper: oh the whopper...actually they recently had the Angry Whopper - oh.my.word. DIVINE! Seriously delicious....
Apple Juice/Orange Juice: orange
Facebook/MySpace: Actually I'm on both, but always forget about Myspace so for the sake of this *quiz* it's facebook. Speaking of Facebook - have you changed yours to Pirate English? If not, try it - sooo funny! Scroll down to the bottom of your facebook page. On the left you'll see *English* (or whatever language you have it set to) - click and when the box appears choose *English:Pirate* - hilarious...even funnier when it tells me to *cast the wench a bottled message* in reference to my mother. HAHA
Boxers/Briefs: If I had my choice I'd say boxer briefs are where it's at (no, not on me...my husband) but Brent prefers Boxers (you were curious, admit it lol). I went through a Boxer phase myself (in Junior High), but have to admit I much prefer a cute pair of briefs :)
Rain/Shine: I LOVE the sunshine...But I also LOVE the rain, though not in excess.
Chips/Popcorn: Chips - but I do enjoy a nice bowl of popcorn once in a while, but it has to be seasoned with loads of butter.
Plane/Boat: Plane... to get to my destination faster....but boat for a nice lounging around kind of day or a cruise (naturally)
Walk/Drive: Depends where I'm going - I do enjoy a nice walk though...
Movie/Play: Play...I love a good movie, but being able to go to the theater is a real treat. Something I wish I did more.
Money/Love: Why can't I have both? LOL Okay okay, truthfully... Love....money is fun, don't get me wrong, but not nearly as fun if you don't have someone you love to share it with. While I may be hoping for a lottery win (I'm not greedy, $30 million would suffice) I'd rather have Brent without the money, than the money without Brent. But back to my first reply - ideally I'd get to have both :D
Breakfast/Dinner: Dinner...I don't particularly care for breakfast foods nor do I seem to eat early enough to be considered *breakfast*.But my best friend growing up LOVES breakfast - in fact she loves it so much she goes to bed *excited* and anticipating breakfast the next morning.
Truth/Dare: Dare....I'm one of those *always honest* kind of people, so dare would probably be more interesting. Well actually maybe Truth would. LOL
Contacts/Glasses: Both
Root Beer/Dr. Pepper: Actually Dr. Pepper (thanks to Brent for that one!) though our daughter LOVES Root Beer.
Mud/Jell-O Wrestling: Doesn't matter as long as I win :D
Skiing/Boarding: Neither...I'm a self proclaimed lodge bunny who would rather be making lunch for the group. Need a personal chef for your ski vacation - I'm your girl! (I'd watch kidlets too!!!!)
Diamond/Pearl: Diamonds are a girl's best friend...
Phone/In-Person: Definitely in person.

We Love Colors - With Giveaway

Am I ever excited about this company! I am constantly trying to find tights for my daughter (okay and myself, it's true). I love variety and of course quality, but haven't really ever found THE place to get them. Until now...

We Love Colors is seriously THE place for tights...for children, women, and men - And although they specialize in opaque tights, their product selection also includes dancewear, performancewear, gloves, socks, and more. They have truly thought of everything - every color and style imaginable (by the way as a side note - it's really difficult for me to spell color without the *u* - but for the sake of this post and company, I will do it. See the sacrifices I make - it's a tough life. LOL).

Laura from We Love Colors sent two pairs of their tights to review - a red and white striped pair and a solid cream pair. I was so anxious for these to arrive in the mail and may have even let out a squeal of delight when they did.

I was a little unsure when I opened them as the first thing I noticed is they don't have heels (as in a reinforced heel). I think I just assume they have to in order to have a good fit.....let's disprove this misconception right now, shall we? Check out all their photos on their website to see just how perfectly these tights fight. And read the many testimonials as well to see just how many people have been THRILLED by their We Love Colors purchase. The striped tights were big on Brooklyn, but trust me - it's not a *tights* problem....it could very well be that my 5 year old is more the size of a 3 year old and I therefore should have gotten the size smaller. But oh man...were they cute!!! We just threw on a pair of her tall boots and away we went (she was INSISTENT she wear them). I love them....and am seriously so excited to add to her collection (and start one of my own). As for the *no heel* issue - I've come to the conclusion that I actually think it's a great feature...your feet (or your child's) won't grow out of the predetermined foot portion of tights - meaning, yes, they will last longer! And that can only be a good thing!

I continue to be floored every time I browse their site - Their affordable pricing ($5-$10 per pair) and awesome colour options are like no other. Some other fun tights I've stared longingly at are the kids Fishnet Pantyhose, Women's Patterned Tights (oh I'm in trouble), the Women's Knee Highs, and the Lurex Glitter Fishnets, among many many others (like the Vertical Striped thigh highs I just now happened upon). Think of the fun you could have! In addition, if you are plus sized - don't let that stop you! We Love Colors has a fabulous selection of plus size tights as well.

There is so much to choose from - and as you browse their site you'll see it's nearly impossible to make a decision...

Monday Mingle...on Tuesday :)

Not only did I miss Monday Mingle last week *sigh* but I am a day late this week...AND I am also not on video yet. So, I will make preparations for next week to be on video..For now I hope reading it is equally as enjoyable.

Here's my Monday Mingle :)

1. Someone tells you that you have the whole day off and gives you $1,000 to do as you please. What do you do?

Ooo, the WHOLE day off?? That would be divine...It would actually be pretty difficult to decide. In so many ways I would love a whole day to myself....and in so many other ways I'd love to spend the day with just Brent....I suppose the great thing is I could really have both...so here's what I would do :) A friend of mine told me that when she was in university, one of her professors told her class that his wife kept a trunk full of gifts - and every so often when she would pass someone that looked like they were having a difficult day or just needed a pick me up, she would pass them a gift. I've always loved this idea and have wanted to do something similar. So first on my list would be to take a portion of the money and stock up on some fun gifts for *random acts of kindness*. I would buy myself a nice pair of lulu's (would be my first pair!!!) - as they are currently high on my wish list (as in #1). I would indulge in a fabulous side by side massage with my darling husband - ideally it would be my aunt Carla and my cousin, Kari who would do the massages. And I think honestly a nice dinner with Brent. Oh AND I would jump over to Toys R Us or Walmart and stock up on games to play as a family.....and a few items of clothing for Brent and I (trust me, my kids have enough...besides the day is about me remember. lol) :)

2. Who would play you in a Lifetime movie about yourself? Oo this is a good one...I'm not entirely sure actually. Perhaps Alexis Bledel or maybe Jennifer Love Hewitt?? I have been told I look like Sally Field when she was younger....and when Kelly Clarkson was on American Idol I had many people comment on our similar characteristics and mannerisms.....it would kind of fun actually to have a Lifetime movie made - as long as I had creative license to oust certain parts. LOL

3. We're in the technology age. What is your favorite technological innovation? What one do you think is just useless? Well considering I don't have a cell phone (can you believe it!!!) it's not obviously one of my favorites. I do love the computer and the way it helps network people from all over...helps me keep in touch, though I have to be honest, there's nothing quite like a handwritten card or letter. But I think my favorite technology innovation is movies....so the video camer/video machines....the ability to create movies and such and curl up and fall into a whole different world for a while is something I've always enjoyed. I rarely even go to the movies, and renting them is also a rarity in our house.....but I LOVE when I get the chance. :) I don't know that I think any of the inventions are completely useless - it seems we can turn anything into a necessity, though I will say this...I wish they would quit making new video machines and just perfect the ones we have...I'm happy with VHS and DVD - let's make them as great as possible so we don't render all the stuff we currently have useless....

4. What is your favorite funny childhood memory? My Grandma used to own a hotel in Ferintosh, Alberta. It was a regular occurance to get together with cousins and aunts, etc...and just enjoy time together and help Grandma with her duties (well the aunts did - us kids just played!). I remember riding around on bikes with my cousin, Radelle playing cops and robbers. We were about 7-8 I think. We *parked* at a retirement home as part of our game and were sitting there chatting when all of a sudden a hallogen light that had been leaning against the outside fell and shattered. Seriously - we had NOTHING to do with it....Out came a sweet old lady wondering what had happened (I wonder now if they were watching us - I can't imagine they could have heard this light break??). We were so flustered and embarrassed and trying to convince this lady we did not break the light but that we would clean it up. She agreed and so we swept it up. Then we asked if there was anything else they needed help with....and they put us to work...wiping, dusting, and vacuuming. Afterwards she offered to pay us. My cousin, Radelle - clearly much more generous than I was at that age lol - was insistent they not pay us - consider it service. Apparantly she was waiting for me to jump on board and confirm that we did not need nor expect any compensation for helping out. We were happy to do it (and we were). But I never did....I kind of left Radelle on her own little island of service. haha...But we only took half the money this sweet lady was offering....anyways, this story makes me laugh and smile....and I almost wish we had made it a tradition to go help out there everytime we visited the hotel.

5. What is/was your favorite Kool-Aid/Jello flavor? One you hated? I love Jell-O. Period. All flavours...but my favorite is probably raspberry....check out my cooking blog HERE for a fabulous Jell-O recipe that is sooo scrumptious, and pretty :) (and easy - sets in ONE HOUR!!!)

I chose the Black Aqua SlimDress (Regular $99 - NOW $30), the White SlimSkort (Regular $59 - NOW $22), and the White Tankini with pink trim (Regular $69.90 - NOW $15). I did of course go over my certificate amount, but am I ever glad I did - besides, it's a little pointless to have only half of a suit. I plan to wear the black one for more regular pool visits, but wanted the white one for when I am sporting a nice (safe) tan - and I have always loved the idea of playing a game of tennis in a tennis skirt. Now I can!!! Let's not lie - it's all about the skirt ;)

I do tend to get excited about the items that come my way and it is legitimate....but this product I really don't think I can say enough about. When I put the dress on I honestly felt like a million bucks - which says a lot since I am still 24lbs away from my goal weight (I am down 6lbs, so that's worth celebrating). My husband, who thankfully thinks I'm stunning regardless, thought the dress looked great (genuinely was impressed). I didn't have time to try on the tankini set before he left for work but rest assured he'll be seeing A LOT of it in the spring and summer as I drag him out of the house for *another* game of tennis! :D

What I love is, well, everything! You can feel it holding you in, but in a completely comfortable way! And the boobs - ladies...let's talk about the boobs! If you are perhaps lacking in that department, do not fear. The *padding* is more than you could ever hope for! The gel-filled bra cups are completely removable so those of you not lacking *up there* need not worry either. It's a perfect fit for everyone - sizes 8-20!!!

Everyone likes to be fancy...

I had parent teacher interviews last week - my first ever *proud mommy moment*. It's amazing to me how quickly time goes by and how grown up our kids are getting. I remember thinking we'd NEVER have kids and Brent would always tell me it would be here before I knew it. While in the moment it seemed like it took FOREVER - but all of a sudden I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old and I'm *gasp* only a year away from 30! I truly don't know where the last 7 years have gone (we just celebrated our 7th in November...and yes, it truly does only get better!) - in so many ways I still feel 22.

Anyways, back to parent teacher interviews (I get sidetracked easily lol). Brooklyn's teachers were really pleased with her and love having her in their class. *beaming mommy* They told me of a few of her cute little quirks (like santizing not just her hands but her legs too - EVERY.DAY. lol) and one in particular made me just smile. I knew I had to share it - I also knew it would make my cousin smile. She is a wedding photographer - a FABULOUS wedding photographer! You can check out her blog HERE - trust me, you will want to. The posts are fun and fresh and real....and I promise it will tie into this blog post of mine. lol

So Brooklyn's teachers were showing me her numbers - they are doing booklets where they work on their letters and numbers (you know the ones - where you trace over the dotted example and then do a few more on your own). They said she is very meticulous (and she is) and really enjoys doing things well (also true). Then they commented on her 1's and how she ALWAYS does the little tail at the top and the underline at the bottom (I have NO idea where she saw that as neither Brent nor I do them that way) - even doing it on the example. They weren't sure where she learned it but wondered if she just liked to be *FANCY* - well, I immediately thought of Radelle and THIS POST. It made me smile. I remember as kids we would eat in a *fancy* way - take a bite, dab dab dab (with the napkin), drink of water, dab dab dab (napkin), etc. And seriously we would do it for the ENTIRE meal. Hey, we just wanted to be *fancy* - who can blame us....don't we all find ourselves in situations where we just want to be a little bit fancy? And now, my adorable (she really is) 5 year old is doing it too - all on her own....she wants to be fancy. And I love it...

Have you ever had a problem keeping your child's pants up or had to roll the waist of the pants over to give a snugger fit? Well I know I definitely have - while I may have giant babies (it's true) once they start walking they COMPLETELY thin out....and so the pant war begins. I have such a difficult time finding pants that are the right waist size AND length that I am often using all sorts of tricks to keep their pants up and not dragging on the floor. Lullaby Piano - with GIVEAWAY

I am LOVING this CD. My almost-4-year-old daughter has always taken a long time winding down at bedtime. I was so happy when Lori sent Hailey and I both a CD to try out. I knew exactly who I would try it out on. Prior to this CD, my daughter Hadley's routine at bedtime was: 1. read a book in bed. 2. Sing songs and scratch her back until she drifted off - this would often take a LONG time.....I was ready for a change. The time came. I popped in the CD and told Hadley (my daughter) that she was going to be my little scientist and do an experiment, like Sid the Science Kid.....she agreed. We still read a book together, and then I said goodnight and turned on the music. I told her I would come back in a few minutes to check on her. When I came back, she was asleep! Success!

The CD has 14 classical piano songs that are played softly and peacefully. Lori came up with the idea, after her son was born. She could practice the piano when he was sleeping only if she played soft and gentle pieces. We have all heard of the benefits of classical music on the development of our little one's brains. Often though, classical music has such a variance in dynamics and tempo, that it can be too loud or fast to fall asleep to. I love how soft and melodic the pieces are that she chose for the CD. Being a pianist myself, I know how difficult some of these pieces are and love how she plays them.

I would definitely recommend this CD to everyone! Even if you don't have young children, it is great for winding down in the evening, or just to listen to when you want to relax. It would make a great stocking stuffer this Christmas or a unique baby gift. The CD is only $10, and you can buy it here.

When Surya, a graphic designer, and Dave, a teacher had their son, they read EVERYTHING! How to interpret a baby's cry and change diapers. They discovered that babies develop in so many ways during the first 5 years that it dwarfs everything they learn over the entire rest of their lives (that's kind of a scary thought). They also learned that newborns can only see 12-15 inches away and are mostly taken with their parents' faces and black and white geometric figures. Experimenting with the latter (don't worry you won't get a bunch of products with their faces plastered on them! lol) - Wee Gallery was born!

We were sent a set of the NEW! Black and White art card collection (the very last one on the page). Created from bold, whimsical, hand-painted originals that cater to a baby's visual strengths, the black and white images and their repeating patterns captivate little ones. Not having any babies at this point we passed the set along to my sister in law for my 6 month old nephew, Zach. He loves looking at the animals and I can imagine it must be nice to have something designed just for him that he can really focus on....

At first glance you might wonder what you would *really* do with these art cards - how would you incorporate them into your baby's day? Just hold them up? I'm sure you could - but I bet you can even be more creative than that. Place them in the crib to transform it into a wee gallery or use them as flash cards for older children. Try tummy time...lay them in front of your baby and watch as discoveries are made. As more mobility comes, you could use them as *crawling incentives* and see if there is a favorite. What a great opportunity to involve older sibilings with the baby!

Monday Mingle

Well readers - this is our first Monday Mingle. I know the idea is to do a vlog and I had fully intended do - in fact I even recorded it twice....but both were *not good* so let's hope for better luck next monday! Megan isn't with me to answer these questions so this time it's a *solo mingle* - hopefully we'll be able to join forces and provide you with something really laughable (I'd like to say informative but we all know that's not likely. lol).

Questions:
1. Have you ever gone streaking or skinny dipping?
I'm a little embarrassed to say I've never been skinny dipping....I haven't been streaking either (let's make that clear) but that never appealed to me. Skinny Dipping on the other hand - I remember getting invited to once, but I don't think I took everyone seriously - I was probably still a little too naive to believe people really did that. And now here I sit - with an opportunity lost. *sigh*
2. If you could invite 5 people to dinner who would it be?
Seriously - this question has been really difficult for me. There are certain friends and family members I would want there...and then of course celebrities that would be awesome to hang out with and get to know. For example - I'm thinking a night of RockBand with Gene Simmons, Elton John, the BeeGees, Michael Jackson (my fave!), and Freddie Mercury - among others. Hmm...let's throw Britney Spears into the mix just for fun and Katy perry - but now I've gone way over my limit of 5! *eeks*
I'd also love to meet Mother Theresa, the Daila Lama, Princess Diana, Julia Roberts....Oh Patch Adams (the real patch adams who I have actually met! but let's throw Robin Williams into the mix too just for kicks!)....And truly no situation is complete without my cousin, Radelle....who simply makes every situation a million times more fun (trust me...if you know her, you know what I'm talking about!). My best friend growing up, Jenny - together we made fun no matter where we were - and now that we have daughters we are FREAKED right out....sometimes I don't know how we survived - seriously! And I'd have to say my grandma...both really. You know when you feel like at their peak for teaching all they know - you were too young to truly appreciate all they had to offer. Yeah...now I wish I had taken advantage of it all! And being adopted - I'd love to sit down some day with my birth parents.....okay I'll stop or I might be banned from Monday Mingle - let's just say it would be *really* difficult to choose JUST 5 people. onto the next question
3. Would you rather have bionic hearing or x-ray vision?
While I personally don't like either of these options, at first thought I chose bionic hearing. However, upon considering what each entails I have since switched to x-ray vision. I initially thought having x-ray vision would perhaps be disturbing on occasion - and bionic hearing, aggravating every so often...do I really want to hear EVERYTHING??? But with x-ray vision - wouldn't it be kind of fun to walk up to complete strangers and make random comments about their knickers (you can thank my cousin Kari for the use of that word...lol) or a strange mole or birthmark or tattoo or something. HAHA - at the risk of coming across completely freak stalker-ish - it would be funny!
4. When you tap your fingers, do you tap from index to pinky or pinky to index?
I have never really given this much thought - but I assumed it would be pinky to index...nope - totally wrong. While I can do it both ways, when i tap my fingers it's index to pinky. Who knew?
5. Would you rather be 4'1" or 7'9"
Eek - similar to question 3 - I don't particularly care for either of these options. LOL But I think 7'9" is just ridiculously tall - yes in the same way as 4'1" is ridiculously short - but for some reason it sounds so much more appealing to be little...perhaps because I've lived my whole life as a *shorty*....and I do love wearing heals....being 7'9" would really put a damper on that. But even still - I can't imagine my mother in law (4'11") with 10" less. *hehe*
6. What is your favorite thanksgiving dish?
My mom makes the most amazing cocktail sausages.....every year they are different as she throws in whatever she has on hand that sounds good....brown sugar, pineapple, juice, jam, ketchup, etc. And every year they turn out amazing! Definitely my favorite thanksgiving dish - I'm going to have to watch her though and write down everything she adds so I at least have some sort of recipe. Mmm Delish!

Enjoy a good laugh? Like being the centre of attention? Take a look at these shirts! Bill, from Crazy Dog T-shirts, sent Hailey and I some shirts to review. We both chose shirts for our husbands. I chose the "Gnome Shirt", and Hailey chose the "G.I. Jose" shirt.

My husband said the shirt was super comfortable and fit well. The colour is vibrant and the shirts are well-made and thicker (they aren't the cheap thin cotton type....). Hailey's husband loves his shirt and thinks it's hilarious, especially when he wears it around their Mexican friend! :D

These labels are amazing! Debbie, from Oliver's Labels sent Hailey and I both a bunch of labels to try out. I chose the Toy Animals design. I wanted labels that were gender neutral so that I could use them for either my daughter or twin boys and I just used our last name to personalize the labels.

We were sent several kinds of labels to review:
1. Original Labels: I put these on some of our sippy cups. I was a little concerned about how they would survive in the dishwasher, but they held up great!

2. Mini Labels: These are a lot thinner and would be great for smaller items like a toothbrush, scissors, or felt markers. They are also dishwasher safe.

3. Shoe Labels: I stuck these in my daughters ballet slippers. They have been in there for about 2 weeks and show no sign of wear. These would be great for school or gym shoes!

4. Stick-eez Clothing Labels: You just stick these on the tag of clothing just like a sticker. No iron needed! For clothes that don't have a tag around the neck, I just stuck the label on the tag that's on the side seam. They held up great in the washer and dryer too! These are so great and would work wonderfully for jackets or gym clothes at school.

5. Safety Wristbands: These are great for church nursery, parties, or in shopping malls. They can have allergy information on them, or just have your child's name and phone number in case they get lost. They are durable and similar to a wristband that you would get at an amusement park or hospital.

I think the best feature of these labels, is their Find-it Tracking System.....AND, it's FREE! How great is that?!

They offer packages, or single sheets and there are a bunch of great designs to choose from. These aren't just for kids either! They would be great for a laptop, cellphone, or mp3 player. The possiblities are endless!

I've always loved bath products...soaking my feet, soaking in a nice hot bubble bath - body washes, bath salts, Lotions, Lip Balms, and of course body scrubs. I love being able to pamper myself and wish I made the time more often to do it. But with kids around - well we all know that as mothers, we don't always make ourselves the priority we should be. I've committed to changing that - and finding this fabulous etsy seller has helped me do just that. I was so excited when Kate agreed to send us each a body scrub to review.

Just grab a handful in the shower or bath and treat yourself to gentle exfoliation on feet, knees and elbows -- or go all out and use it all over! (I can't possibly stop at just my knees or elbows...it's just too good!!!).

I will definitely be keeping some of this in stock - not to mention trying all of her other products. These are the perfect way to spend a little time pampering after a busy day. I'm looking forward to checking out some of her other scents as well!
